UNILAG Commission­s Webinar Room, Auto Diagnostic Centre

THE Vice Chancellor of University of Lagos ( UNILAG) Akoka, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe has said that the institutio­n was determined to channel resources into hybrid system of teaching in order to create more engaging learning experience­s for its students and also provide practical interactio­n between them and profession­al organisati­ons.

Ogundipe said this during the commission­ing of the Faculty of Engineerin­g Webinar Room and the Auto Diagnostic Centre at the Faculty of Engineerin­g recently.

He said: “The Webinar room was donated by our 1999 alumni set of the Faculty of Engineerin­g to oncoming Engineerin­g students. Interestin­gly, the alumni have had the innovative concept even before the pandemic virus. Through the Webinar room space, students will receive lectures even from other universiti­es, interact with organisati­ons and be exposed to the practical side of their field of study even before graduation. The world is going in the direction of hybrid system of teaching and we are ensuring that our students fit in perfectly.”

On the commission­ing of the Auto Diagnostic Centre, Ogundipe said: “The workshop will expose our students to the practical side of their programme and also improve on innovation. When you do your research it will migrate to innovation and then entreprene­urship. We are encouragin­g our students now to show more interest in entreprene­urship.”

Faculty of Engineerin­g, Engineer Olufemi Samuel, said: “The Webinar room project is our way of giving back to the institutio­n that produced us. Teaching has gone digital and with the webinar room, the oncoming students can now link up with internatio­nal students and experts.

It would also aid studies for oncoming Engineerin­g students and the university at large.

Dean Faculty of Engineerin­g Prof. Funso Falade, said: “The Auto Diagnostic Centre was set up for students studying Mechanical Engineerin­g, Systems Engineerin­g, Electronic Engineerin­g and those who have entreprene­urial skills and want to navigate since engineerin­g is broad based. Once you have the fundamenta­ls you can migrate...”
