THE out- going Vice Chancellor of the Federal University Oye- Ekiti ( FUOYE), Prof. Kayode Soremekun, has urged the Federal Government to curb unionisation of Nigerian universities, saying that it has become an impediment to the growth and development of the ivory towers.
Soremekun said that the universities that ought to be abode of knowledge acquisition had been turned to battle field by the various unions operating in various campuses over flimsy excuses.
He, therefore, urged the Federal Government to moderate activities of the unions to save the citadel of learning from total collapse.
The outgoing VC, who spoke, yesterday, at the commissioning of 81 projects dotted the twin campuses of the university, which were undertaken by his administration, said: “In a situation where you have one union or the other always going on strike, it is not healthy for the universities. The university basically is a factory for knowledge.”
