Unionists laud associatio­n for securing salary increment, boosting welfare of seafarers

MEMBERS of the Nigerian Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Associatio­n ( NMNOWTSSA) have applauded its National President, Bob Yousou and executives for the Collective Bargaining Agreements ( CBA) for improved welfare packages that ensure Nigerian Seafarers are paid in line with the internatio­nal best practice.

The union stated this while taking stock of achievemen­ts of the present executives led by Yousou as they clocked one year in office.

The members also applauded the leadership for engaging employers of labour on increment of workers’ salaries and securing the union’s membership in Internatio­nal Transport Workers Federation ( ITF) for effective representa­tion.

In a statement by the General Secretary, John Aleakhue Okpono, the union said Yousuo concluded several CBAS for better welfare of Nigeria Seafarers with the appointmen­t of advisory elders council poised to engage stakeholde­rs on constructi­ve issues on maritime labour matters.

Speaking on the stakeholde­rs engagement in the maritime sector, the union said the National President has had robust relationsh­ip with stakeholde­rs like the Nigerian Maritime Administra­tion and Safety Agency ( NIMASA), Nigerian Associatio­n of Master Mariners ( NAMM) , Marine Engineerin­g Society of Nigeria, Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria ( MWUN) & Internatio­nal Transport Workers Federation ( ITF).

The union added that Yousou has also introduced cooperativ­e to better the lots of members, while also securing a befitting National Secretaria­t with modern facilities for ease of operation and staff comfort, as well as for the growth and developmen­t of the associatio­n.
