Shot policewoma­n recuperati­ng, says CP as APC, Oni, others condemn Ekiti by- election violence

Fayemi vows to punish perpetrato­rs of killings

THE Ekiti State Commission­er of Police, Mr. Babatunde Mobayo, has said that the policewoma­n shot during Saturday’s House of Assembly by- election in Ekiti East Constituen­cy I of the state, is responding to treatment.

Mobayo said that contrary to widespread speculatio­ns in some quarters that a policewoma­n lost her life during the bloody poll, the victim only sustained gunshot wounds and was immediatel­y rushed to the hospital for medicare.

The CP, who spoke with journalist­s via telephone in AdoEkiti, yesterday, through the command’s spokesman, ASP Sunday Abutu, said the shot police officer was being taken care of.

He said that three suspected perpetrato­rs of the shootings had been arrested and detained at the police headquarte­rs in Ado- Ekiti. EANWHILE, in solidarity with those who lost their lives during the by- election, former governor and governorsh­ip aspirant, Segun Oni, has cancelled his political programmes for seven days.

Oni, in a statement he personally signed and made available to newsmen yesterday, said the official commission­ing of the Ijero Local Council Campaign House, had also been suspended. He described the situation as unfortunat­e and a slap on democracy.

MIn the same vein, the All Progressiv­es Congress ( APC) in Ekiti State in a statement made available to newsmen in Ado- Ekiti by Director of Media and Publicity of the party, Sam Oluwalana, the party condemned the unwarrante­d shootings by suspected thugs.

In another developmen­t, a front line aspirant in the coming gubernator­ial election in Ekiti State, Kayode Adaramodu, in a statement through his Media Office in Ado- Ekiti, has condemned the needless killings that trailed the by- election.

YIAGA Director of Programmes, Cynthia Mbamalu, in Abuja noted that the unleashing of mayhem on the process was an assault on democracy and the sanctity of life.

N the meantime, Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi, yesterday, promised not to play politics with the killings of innocent people during the Ekiti East State Constituen­cy I by- election last Saturday.

Fayemi stated this when he paid a condolence visit to Omuo- Ekiti, the headquarte­rs of Ekiti East Local Council of the state where violence erupted during the by- election.
