Lawmaker empowers youths, women with agricultur­al inputs

• Enugu senator trains constituen­ts in fish, snail farming

ALAWMAKER, Kolawole Lawal Mobolorund­uro, representi­ng Egbado South/ Ipokia Federal Constituen­cy in Ogun State, has empowered no fewer than 80 youths and women in Ipokia/ Owode axis with agricultur­al inputs.

This was done in a startup training course in collaborat­ion with National B i o t e c h n o l o g y Developmen­t Agency on fish, snail and poultry farming to reduce unemployme­nt in the south- western zone of the country.

The three- day training programme, which took place at Owode area of the state, was attended by the 80 participan­ts who benefitted from the programme, and were trained on modern methods and techniques of poultry and fish farming, snail rearing as well as large pawpaw production.

The coordinato­r of National Biotechnol­ogy Developmen­t Agency and technical partners of the training, Dr Henry Oshagbemi, said fish and poultry farming had become lucrative businesses in Nigeria of today. He also added that this would promote food security in the country.

Participan­ts were provided with starter packs such as day- old chicks, fish feeds, large snails, pawpaw seedlings and cash, with training manuals as guide. M

EANWHILE, in his effort to alleviate poverty, boost job creation and ensure continuous human capacity developmen­t for his people, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani has facilitate­d a vocational training for youths and women on fish farming in Enugu East senatorial district.

The training, which was put together by Bio- resources Developmen­t Centre, Owode, under the National B i o t e c h n o l o g y Developmen­t Agency, was organized by Ragal Consult Limited.

The training was in two phases, with the first phase having about 80 participan­ts while the second phase had only 30 participan­ts.

The first phase was a threeday training started from last year December 28, and ended on December 30, while the second phase was held between March 25 and 26, 2021. The two events took place in Enugu, Enugu State. Senator Nnamani, addressing the participan­ts, said the training was facilitate­d in his bid to ensure youths of the senatorial district were self- employed through productive entreprene­ur skills.

“I believe in sustainabl­e empowermen­t rather than consumable­s empowermen­t, and that informs the reason I’m organizing this training as part of my constituen­cy project,” he said.

The participan­ts expressed their happiness to the senator for facilitati­ng such a programme and promised to make the best use of the knowledge acquired from the training.
