FG resumes int’l flights at Kano airport

- Frommurtala Adewale, Kano

THE Federal Government, yesterday, resumed foreign flights at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport ( MAKIA) 13 months after its closure. The gateway was shut along with its Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Enugu and Owerri counterparts in March 2020 following the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

But the Murtala Muhammed International Airport ( MMIA), Lagos and Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport ( NAIA), Abuja were reopened some seven months later, leaving others in abeyance.

The continued shutdown had elicited outcries of the state government, business community and travel agencies that complained of hardship and job losses

The reopening witnessed the arrival of 11 passengers aboard Ethiopian Air with registration number, 5NATH, which touched ground at exactly 1.30pm. The same flight departed the facility with 80 passengers at about 3: 00pm.
