THE Yoruba socio- cultural group, Afenifere, has denied supporting presidential bid of any aspirant for the 2023 presidential election.

In a statement, yesterday, Afenifere Director of Communication, Mr. Sola Lawal, dismissed the viral statement by the leader of

South West Agenda ( SWAGA), Dayo Adeyeye, purporting that his group secured support of Afenifere for its candidate during a visit to Pa Reuben Fasoranti, erstwhile Afenifere leader, during the week.

Lawal said that the group was still mourning its

EKITI State Governor Kayode Fayemi has begun moves to revive the spirit of reading and learning among students of the state to enhance their knowledge drive and academic performance.

Fayemi said he had given approval for the formation of the Ekiti State Spelling, Reading and Learning Club ( EKSRAL- CLUB) in all the secondary schools of the state.

Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yinka Odumakin, in whose honour the group suspended all engagements.

He also pointed out that 96year- old Fasoranti had taken a “deserved rest when he formally handed over to Chief Ayo Adebanjo three weeks ago after leading the group

Senior Special Assistant, Student’s Matters to the Governor, Mr. Olalekan Soyombo, who confirmed this in a statement, yesterday, in Ado- Ekiti, noted that the step was part of the governor’s quest to promote literacy and increase knowledge among Ekiti State students.

He said: “The Ekiti State Government noticed with deep concern the seemingly unending decline in the reading culture among the for 12 years and so the former couldn’t have spoken for Afenifere during the SWAGA visit to his Akure home.”

The group further said it had temporarily halted all activities in honour of Odumakin who is still lying in the morgue, cold and lonely.

“The Adeyeye foray into Afenifere space at this period of huge loss and intense students and their disposition to many of the unimportant social ventures, which have in return affected the students’ critical thinking, hence, the introduction of EKSRAL- CLUB to the students as a way to go. “The ultimate agenda of this initiatives is to build the enclave of knowledge, wisdom and productive ideas in the students through consistent reading and learning.”

He said that the various mourning is disrespectful, insensitive and unwarranted.

“Being a former Afenifere top- notch and, in fact, Odumakin’s immediate predecessor in office as spokesperson for Afenifere, Adeyeye should cease all activities and join us in mourning at this trying times,” Lawal said. clubs would be inaugurated on April 23, 2021 to commemorate this year’s World Book Day.

According to Soyombo, Fayemi, who doubles as the President of the Club, would be joined by the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology and many prominent individuals to officially launch the club and donate books for free to students in the state.
