NCC charges telecoms consumers to be cyber security- conscious

- From Lawrence Njoku, Enugu

THE Nigerian C o m m u n i c a t i o n s Commission ( NCC) has stressed the need for consumers to be cyber securityconscious while online and to always ensure efficient management of e- waste for a safer environment.

It said that this year’s World Consumer Rights Day ( WCRD), which was observed last month, focused on tackling plastic pollution in line with the e- waste regulation being pursued by the commission.

Besides, it insisted that being cyber conscious would help them prevent crimes committed through the internet among other ugly developments.

Executive Vice Chairman of the Commission, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, also emphasised the importance of the ongoing National Identity

Number ( NIN)- SIM data linkage exercise, stressing that it was aimed at ensuring a credible citizen database for improved national security. Danbatta, who spoke at the NCC special day at the justconcluded 32nd Enugu International Trade Fair, said that the commission would continue to engage with telecoms consumers and enlighten them on their rights and privileges within the telecommunications sector.

He stated that events of such nature provide the opportunity for NCC, as a telecoms regulator, to interact with consumers and attend to their service- related concerns.

The vice chairman, represented by the Director, Public Affairs, NCC, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde, highlighted some of the regulatory initiatives put in place by the commission for protecting, informing and educating the consumers.
