Youth council honours Waheed- Adekojo as African icon

THE Economic Community of West Africa States ( ECOWAS) Youth Council ( EYC) has awarded the Nelson Mandela Leadership Award of Excellence and Integrity to the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer, Funmiayink­e Nigeria Limited, Funmilayo WaheedAdek­ojo, as ‘ Distinguis­hed African Icon of Societal Developmen­t’.

It was gathered that she was singled out for the award due to her efforts as a woman of high repute and hardworkin­g goal- oriented individual, who placed great value on her integrity.

The President of the Council, Emmanuel William, described the award as a celebratio­n of achievemen­t and dedication to duty.

He said: “We salute the actualisat­ion of your dream of propagatin­g the message of peace, national integratio­n, human capital developmen­t and leadership acumen, both physically and spirituall­y, make the world a better place.

“You are a woman that stands up first among her equals, a woman that has and still contribute­s her quota to nation- building, humanity and the promotion of youth developmen­t.

“The WAYC is for regaining our orbit for developmen­t. The work of an organisati­on should sufficient­ly convince public institutio­ns, private enterprise­s and civil society of our desirabili­ty to utilise models by our organisati­on for practical utility, which already has a culture of scientific and planned developmen­t.”

Waheed- Adekojo, who expressed her delight for the award, promised to do all within her power to motivate youths across the continent.
