Obaseki reassures of infrastructure development, support for Edo women

- From Michael Egbejule, Benin City

EDO State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, yesterday, declared that his administration is consciously investing in sustainable infrastructure to drive socioeconomic growth and development of the state.

Obaseki, who spoke at a stakeholders’ engagement for women in Benin City, applauded Edo women for their contribution towards the lasting peace and allround development witnessed in the state.

He explained that the state government was building roads and connecting communities to boost economic activities and ensure even development across the state, stressing that government was investing hugely on infrastructure to grow and develop the state’s economy.

His words: “Edo women are the most hard working anywhere in the world and they suffer untold hardship, but we are in government to make things easier for them.

“We need to organise the government properly to be able to get more money through taxes to enable us to develop the state and make life better for Edo people. The future of our state is bright and so our citizens must not lose hope in this government. All we need to do is to look inward and organise ourselves.”

Continuing, he said: “We don’t have strong institutions, as godfathers replaced institutions in the past. Godfathers do not determine the way a state or system should be run, but the people and the institutions.” On her part, wife of the governor, Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, advocated for women to be appointed into political positions to enable them to effectively contribute their quota to the development of the nation.

“I urge you people to be ready to contribute to the development of the state by changing the narrative of getting involved in politics. I encourage you to also pay your taxes and be committed to good governance by supporting the Edo State Government Economic Development Plan,” she said.
