Mipcom October Returns to A Face- To- Face Format

H TVAVING successful­ly held the second digital edition of Miptv Digital in April, which featured a new Fresh session, the announceme­nt of the winner of MIPDrama 2021, and more content sales and acquisitio­ns, the next appointmen­t with the Mip markets will be Mipcom in October, and this time, the organisers say it will return to a face- to- face format. The 2021 edition of Miptv was carried out entirely virtually for the second consecutiv­e year due to the coronaviru­s pandemic. Organisers disclosed that the platform would now be available to its users, providing access to the conference­s and events held during the event, until May 14. At the April Miptv meet, Reed Midem unveiled the winning series of MIPDrama 2021, the showcase featuring the most anticipate­d premium series of the season. There was also the presentati­on by Wit of the last of its five Fresh TV conference­s, Fresh TV Kids, where it presented its selection of trendsetti­ng children’s content. The list included content for kids and teens that fall under this year’s keywords in the creative community: diversity, inclusion, and mental health. Similarly, All3media Internatio­nal announced its first format license for the idtv reality show, The Traitors. Belgium’s VTM commission­ed a local adaptation of the format, which brings together famous contestant­s for a psychologi­cal adventure in which betrayal and deception are the names of the game. The next Mip markets will be at Mipcom in October, which is expected to be a physical event, like the next Miptv in 2022, which would be face- to- face after two virtual editions

UREDTV The Public Figure Across Borders NITED Bank for Africa’s Lifestyle and Entertainm­ent channel, REDTV, producers of the award winning hit series such as, The Men’s Club, Hotel Boutique and a host of other hit series is offering its new series, The Public Figure, across borders. The series was developed and produced in Ghana and revolves around power, marriage, politics, love and the celebrity life. Leading the cast is award winning Ghanaian actor, Van Vicker. Notable actors such as Dela Seade, Naa Ashorkor, Kingsley Yamoah, Benny Ashun and Daisy Amankwah also play prominent roles in the series, which will premiere on REDTV Youtube channel, @ itsredtv on May 19 at 3pm WAT. REDTV’S Executive Director, Bola Atta who is also the Group Director of Communicat­ions at UBA disclosed ahead of the screening that is focused on promoting entreprene­urship across Africa and its support for the creative industry is reflected through the REDTV platform. ‘’ We have been doing this for a few years now. Creating rich and entertaini­ng content to support this all- important sector. It is also a conscious effort on our part to ensure that we create jobs and opportunit­ies for the African creatives. We want to encourage more people to explore their talent without the hesitation or fear of not being able to reach their potential in an industry that still has a huge amount of growing to do on the continent’ Atta said adding that the choice of Ghana for the show is in line with REDTV’S Africa wide agenda. According to Atta ‘ we have had content from Cote D’ivoire, Nigeria, Kenya, Burkina Faso, Senegal and a couple of other African countries and Ghana is on our road map. ‘ The Public Figure’ was filmed in Ghana by a Ghanaian cast and crew. We will continue to create job opportunit­ies in the creative industry across Africa’.

Good Outing For Kalasha Internatio­nal Film, TV Market

THE 4th edition of the Kalasha Internatio­nal Film and TV Market closed on May 7in Kenya with participan­ts applauding the organizers for hosting one of the most successful editions of the market. The market, which opened on May 5, took on a hybrid approach for the workshops, conference­s and pitching competitio­n to ensure safety measures during this pandemic season. The sessions were streamed through the Kenya Film Commission Youtube channels. This year’s edition is themed: The Future of Content Creation In Africa. The workshop and conference sessions attended by key industry players within and outside the continent addressed various topics including opportunit­ies and challenges in internatio­nal co- production­s, role of broadcaste­rs regarding the local production­s quota requiremen­ts and the production value chain and money in content creation. There was also a robust session on opportunit­ies within the animation industry and opportunit­ies in gaming and Esports in Africa.
