- From Uzoma Nzeagwu, Awka

ONE person was feared dead yesterday in Anambra State, in a clash between revenue task force and trailer drivers at the building materials market in Ogidi town, on the Onitsha- Enugu Expressway.

Trouble, The Guardian learnt, started about 6: 30 a. m., when a trailer driver carrying goods was intercepted by some revenue agents also known as ( Ndi Produce) and an argument ensued, which led to fisticuffs.

According to an eyewitness, who spoke in confidence, the exchange of blows deteriorated to the use of firearms, which resulted in the death of the driver whose name is yet to be known.

“Angered by the death of their colleague, the trailer drivers blocked the Onitsha- Awka

Enugu Expressway, demanding the head of the task force involved in the death of their member,” the witness said.

It was also gathered that traffic was at standstill from Nkpor Junction to Ugwunwasike and New Tarzan Junctions as protesters took over the road, while motorists were compelled to take a diversion inside the main towns of Nkpor linking parts of Ogbunike to Awka.

As of the time of filing this report, all members of the task force had vanished from the area and their office could not be reached to speak on the matter. M

EANWHILE, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, said calm had been restored to the area while investigations were ongoing.
