Enugu varsity hospital trims admission over paucity of doctors
Govt sensitises rural dwellers on SMES
RESIDENT doctors at the Enugu State University Teaching Hospital ( ESUTTH), Parklane, have resolved to scale down admission of patients by 25 per cent from today, due to scarcity of doctors.
The idea, they said, is also to ensure adequate care for patients within the available manpower.
Rising from their emergency meeting in Enugu yesterday, the Association of Resident Doctors ( ARD), ESUT- TH chapter, in a statement signed by its President, Dr. Emmanuel Edoga, and General Secretary, Dr. Chukwunonso
Ofonere, also lamented shortage of other basic facilities in the institution.
They said: “Starting from Monday, July 19, 2021, the ARD, Parklane, will, in conjunction with Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria ( MDCAN) ESUT- TH Parklane, scale down all admissions/ emergency intakes and clinic consultations by 25 per cent in the first instance and by 50 per cent from Monday, August 2, 2021, if recruitments are not carried out.”
The statement called on the hospital management to urgently employ a minimum of 20 new house officers, who could be recruited from the newly inducted medical doctors.
IN another development, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration, through the Enugu Small and Medium- sized Enterprises ( SMES) Centre, has begun enlightenment campaign across the 17 local councils of the state on the inherent socio- economic benefits of the scheme to the people at the grassroots.
The campaign, tagged ‘ Local Government Area Sensitisation Tour’, according to the Governor’s Special Adviser on SMES Development/ Head of the Centre, Arinze Chilo- Offiah, was conceived “to ensure that those at the grassroots level benefit from the Enugu SMES Centre’s programmes.”
Chilo- Offiah added that the programme, which was in line with the rural development agenda of the Ugwuanyi administration, impacted positively on the lives of the rural dwellers in so many ways.
He pointed out that Ugwuanyi championed the sensitisation tour to enlighten Ndi- Enugu about schemes that would be of benefit to the development of their communities.
