Fire guts popular Abuja Ebeano Supermarket
FIREMEN, including a team from Julius Berger, yesterday battled for hours to bring under control an inferno that engulfed Prince Ebeano Supermarket in Abuja.
The Supermarket is located along Sun City Estate road in Lokogoma District of the Federal Capital Territory, ( FCT), Abuja.
The Guardian learnt the fire started late Saturday evening and was brought under control by a combined team of the FCT Fire Service and the Federal Fire Service.
However, it suddenly reignited yesterday as early as 6: 00a. m.
But the operational commander of the FFS in charge of operations, Assistant Controller- General, ( ACG), Brymo Momoh, said his team had brought the fire under control and had already informed the Controller- General, ( CG), on the status of the operation.
According to him, as a standard requirement, they
would not leave the venue to avoid any case of the fire reigniting and that was what happened early Sunday morning.
He said: “We had earlier brought the fire under control and informed the CG about it but while our men were still on ground monitoring the situation, when everything again went up in flames, we noticed the fire had suddenly reignited and since then we have been battling with it and it is being tackled.
“The Federal Fire Service has brought four multipurpose firefighting trucks on ground with high capacity, the FCT fire service is on ground, Julius Berger and guards brigade, are all on ground and the NEMA, ( National Emergency Management Agency), has even joined us now,” he said.
He added; “Since yesterday till now, we have all been on ground here to tackle this massive fire to ensure that the situation is completely contained and arrested and there is no cause for panic as we will bring it under control.”
Similarly, the Public Relations officer of the FFS, Ugo Huan, has called for calm, assuring the public that the firemen are on ground and will do justice to the situation.
