KADUNA Police Command has rescued four persons kidnapped by bandits in Kafanchan on Sunday.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammad Jalige, who disclosed this in a statement, said the police received a distress call that some bandits attacked two vehicles around Bade forest in the Jema’a Local Government Area of Kaduna State and took six occupants into a forest.

On the strength of the information, he said operatives were immediately mobilised to the area, trailed the bandits into their enclaves, engaged them in a fierce shootout and succeeded in rescuing four abductees unhurt while some of the bandits escaped with bullet wounds.

Jalige, however, said concerted effort was on to rescue those still in captivity.

In a related development, the command said it arrested a suspect for illegal possession of firearms and recovered two fabricated firearms as well as three live cartridges.

“On July 18, about 1150hr, operatives of the Kaduna Police Command acted on reliable information and succeeded in arresting one Musa Danyaro, ‘ m,’ 36 years, of Nagogo Road, Malali, GRA Kaduna in possession of a locally- fabricated pistol and three live polymer- cased 12- gauge shotgun shells.

“The suspect’s residence was further searched, and double- barreled gun was equally recovered,” it said.

The command also said it had since launched an investigation into the incident with the aim of establishing the motives behind the unlawful possession of the weapons and possible arrest of more suspects.
