COVID- 19, cholera, measles kill 244 in Borno

IN 18 months, cholera ,measles and Coronaviru­s Disease ( COVID- 19) have killed 244 people in Borno State.

This was made known at the weekend in the World Health Organisati­on ( WHO) weekly snap shots entitled ‘ Overview of COVID- 19, cholera, CVDPV2 in Borno’ at the orientatio­n workshop for journalist­s in Maiduguri.

The deaths were reported from 14,227 cases of the three diseases in 20 local councils of the state.

“Since the outbreak of COVID- 19 in April, 2020, at Pulka, the epidemiolo­gical updates show that COVID- 19 killed 38 people in the state,” said Dr. Danladi Ndahi, while presenting an overview on COVID- 19 in the state.

He explained that out of the 22,065 cases, there were 1,363 confirmed cases with 6.2 per cent Case Positivity Rate ( CPR).

“The Case Fatality Rate ( CFR) also stood at 2.8 per cent,” he added.

On CFR, he noted that COVID- 19 was 5.2 per cent, while cholera and measles had 0.95 per cent and 2.8 per cent in that order.

Ndahi noted that 89 per cent of COVID- 19 confirmed cases were recorded in Maiduguri metropolis, while Jere coun

cil recorded 19 per cent.
