• Floats insurance scheme for indigent students • Student union awards N2.5m scholarship to fellow indigent students

- From Ayodele Afolabi, Ado- Ekiti

THE management of the Federal University OyeEkiti ( FUOYE) has declared that any lecturer caught in the web of sexual harassment of students, as well as students who are involved in cyber crime, cultism and other social misdemeanours, would be shown the way out of the university.

It also lamented that social vices, such as sexual harassment, cultism and cyber crime, are gradually becoming rampant in the university that ought to be citadel of learning.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Abay omi Fasina, who read the riot act at the weekend during the matriculation ceremony , said the institution had strategically been working with security agencies and purchased CCTV cameras to monitor activities in the university’s campuses and the students residential areas.

Fasina stated further that the university would use student spies to monitor fellow students for effective synergy with the institution’s security network, warning that any student apprehended for any of the foregoing would be expelled to protect the school’s image.

The professor of Soil Science revealed that in what appeared to be an exemplary conduct, the Students Union Government ( SUG) of the institution had awarded N2.5 million scholarship to poor students to aid the completion of their academic careers.

He said that the benefitting students were those that fell victims of emergency situations like parents or guardians’ deaths, loss of jobs by financiers, incapacitation and other terrible circumstances that could ha ve stalled completion of their education.

Fasina also presented insurance certificates to 25 poor students whose education have been insured by NICON insurance in a process facilitated by the school to make life comfortable for people from financially- deficient backgrounds.

He said: “Let me state here that this university has zerotolerance for sexual harassment of the students. I won’t spare anybody found wanting no matter how highlyplaced.

“We want to operate in an environment that has sanity. Character moulding is very important. A friend once said if you lose your wealth, nothing is lost, if you lose your health, something is lost but if you lose your character, all are lost.”
