Anyim, Atiku supporters divided over alleged hijack of Ebonyi PDP congress

- From Leo Sobechi, Deputy Politics Editor, Abuja

OT MINDING the announcement by the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) of a peaceful, free and fair congress in Ebonyi State, the former Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Silas Onu, alleged that a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation ( SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, hijacked the exercise and imposed an outsider on the party.

Onu, who was a candidate for the post of state chairman, told The Guardian on telephone that the former Senate President and some other party leaders were personally writing the name of

Tochukwu Okorie on the ballot when delegates refused to do their bidding because Okorie was not known to the party.

The distraught chairmanship candidate said Anyim told him that stakeholders would not allow his election based on his support for the presidential aspiration of former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, adding that that was why there was no accreditation of delegates. UT when contacted, the former SGF said reacting to certain insinuations would sometimes confer relevance to attention seekers.

He said that when Onu came up with his tales, he merely told him, “You are my son’s mate. If you need a reply, I will ask my son to reply you, but I think you don’t deserve any.”

Meanwhile, in an interaction with The Guardian, Onu said: “Apart from accusing me of hailing from the same town as incumbent Governor Dave Umahi, I was told that there was no way I should be allowed to be state chairman because of my support for Atiku Abubakar’s 2023 presidential ambition,” had elapsed.
