ONE David Adeyemi has bagged six months jail term after he was arraigned before a Tinubu Magistrate Court, Lagos, over a two- count charge of assault on a staff of Eko Electricity Distribution Company ( EKEDC), while discharging his official duty.

The defendant had illegally connected his apartment at Makanjuola area of Apapa after being disconnected and was rebuked by the staff member .

He then punched the staff in the face, thereby inflicting injur y on him after which he was arrested and subsequently arraigned.

The Magistrate, Mrs. T . N. Idowu found Adeyemi guilty on two- counts charge bordering on assault and sentenced him to six months on both counts to run consecutively .

She ordered that Adeyemi be remanded in the Iko yi facility of the Nigerian Correctional Service.

EKEDC General Manager, Corporate Communications, Godwin Idemudia, in a statement, said: “It is unbelievable that these acts are still happening in this

age and time despite sev - eral appeals by the company to customers to make use of all our complaints resolution channels as well as being civil instead of resorting to self- help. It is rather barbaric to inflict injury on another person while carrying out his lawful duties.”

Idemudia urged customers to always seek diplomatic means and engagement in settling grievances. Customers are encouraged to make use of available resolution channels such as the EKEDC website; ekedp. com, 24/ 7 Customer Complaints Unit line.
