Enugu APC crisis festers as Nwoye refuses to handover to Agballah

- From Lawrence Njoku, Enugu

THE crisis over the headship of the Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress ( APC) may have reoccurred as the immediate past state chairman of the party, Dr. Ben Nwoye, yesterday, declared that he wont handover affairs of the party to its new chairman, Mr. Ugochukwu Agballah.

This is about two months after the Mai Bunu- led immediate past National Caretaker Committee of the party had recognised Agballah as the chairman of the party in the state and issued him with certificate of return.

Yesterday, however, Nwoye insisted that he would not handover to Agballah, alleging that his membership and chairmanship of the party was in serious dispute and subject to multiple litigations in courts.

Agballah had, since assumption of office, made efforts to take custody of documents, including membership register of all the wards and local councils in the state, as well as its state secretariat at Enugu.

He was said to have written several letters to Nwoye and other leaders of the party to prevail on him to hand over the official documents in his possession to the new leadership.

On Tuesday, Robert Ngwu, who claims to be the state secretary of the party, had announced Nwoye’s expulsion, alongside five others, accusing them of forcefully and illegally taken possession of the property of the party in the state.

But reacting to the development, yesterday, Nwoye, who denied breaking into the state secretariat of the party, insisted that he would not handover to someone whose membership was in dispute, stressing that neither Agballah nor Ngwu has the power to expel any member of a party where they are non- members.”
