NIGERIA- TRAINED medical doctor, Dr. Chioma Amajoh, alsoknown- as ‘ Mama Malaria’, who has spent over 30 years advocating malaria control and elimination in the country, was at the weekend honoured with the Africa’s Living Legend Award.

She developed a passion for malaria control while working as the National Coordinator of the National Malaria Control Programme ( NMCP), Federal Ministry of Health ( FMOH), where she moved up her ranks over the course of her career

While receiving the award in Abuja, Amajoh called on Nigerians to keep the environments clean to address challenges of malaria in the country.

She thanked God for seeing her through challenges, while working as the National Coordinator of the NMCP.

Speaking on the choice, the Editor- in- Chief of Royal International Magazine, Chief Darlington Momon Umoru, said the Dr. Amajoh deserves the honour, having contributed immensely to the development of the African communities.

He said that Dr. Amajoh led and galvanised Roll Back Malaria ( RBM) Partnership in Nigeria for impact as a Director of Integrated vector management ( IVM) and National Coordinator of NMCP.

Umoru said: “These awards are for individuals who have worked to develop the society, many of them have been working silently. And they have not been at the forefront.

“They are not using the resources of federal or States governments to work. Some of them do it by borrowing money to achieve the success they have achieved. So these are the kinds of people we bring out to appreciate.

“Many of them don’t have sponsors. Many of the philanthropists you saw here today don’t even have sponsors. So that is the main reasons we have to honour them.”

He further noted that the award is not limited to politicians, but, to Nigerians who are bringing happiness and joy to many homes across the continent and beyond.

Africa’s Living Legend Award was organized by the Royal International Magazine to honour who has contributed to development of Africa.
