Army chief, Anyim pledge to prioritise security

CHIEF of Army Staff ( COAS), Lt- Gen. Faruk Yahaya, has said that the army will continue to provide more security for Nigerian residents.

Also, Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) presidenti­al aspirant and former Secretary to the Government of the federation ( SGF), Senator Pius Anyim, promised to prioritise security, if voted into power.

While commission­ing 13 corporal and below officers’ block at the 223 Battalion, Dakkarawa Barracks, Zuru, yesterday, the COAS expressed his administra­tion’s readiness to support and protect Nigerians and army personnel, to strengthen them in the war against insurgency.

Yahaya explained that the Dakkarawa Barracks, establishe­d in 1975, would be fully rehabilita­ted and assured them that another l2 blocks would be renovated.

“This renovated 13 corporal and below officers’ quarters will accommodat­e 153 families. The renovation is going to be in batches,” he said.

The army chief assured them that arrangemen­ts had been concluded for the provision of potable water in the barracks, urging them to be committed to the service.

NYIM, who made the promise at a meeting with PDP delegates from Zamfara State, in Abuja, explained that killings across the federation have become unbearable.

He stated that security and economy would be accorded topmost priority, if he is elected president next year.

“The 2023 election is not like any other. What Nigerians need is a unified and peaceful nation. We need a Nigeria of equal opportunit­ies for all. With the right leadership, Zamfara, with all of its abundant natural resources, will be the richest state in Nigeria.
