What Does The Bible Say About Descendants Being “Cursed”/ Suffering Because Of The Sins Of Parent/ s?
God Judges each of us individually. A classical example is that of the sons of Korah
Psalms 42- 49, 84, 85; 87, 88 were written by the sons of Korah. Korah was a Levite who led a rebellion against Moses ( Num 16: 1- 35). Korah was the leader of a rebellion against Moses and Aaron while Israel was camped in the wilderness of Paran ( Num 16). Korah, Dathan, and Abiram led a confederacy of 250 princes of the people against Aaron’s claim to the priesthood and Moses’ claim to authority in general. The rebels contended that the entire congregation was sanctified and, therefore, qualified to perform priestly functions. As a punishment for their insubordination, God caused the earth to open and swallow the leaders and their property. A fire from the Lord consumed the 250 followers. Korah was killed, but his descendants remained faithful to God and continued to serve God in the temple.
David appointed men from the clan of Korah to serve as choir leaders ( 1 Chr 6: 31- 38), and they continued to be temple musicians for hundreds of years ( 2 Chr 20: 18, 19). Levite descended from Izhar, of the family of Korah ( Exo 6: 21; 1 Chr 6: 22, 37). The sons of Korah and Asaph were the two most prominent groups of temple singers ( cp. 2 Chron 20: 19).
A False Proverb Refuted
“What do you mean when you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying: ‘ The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge‘? ( Ezek 18: 2)

The people of Judah believed that they were being punished for the sins of their ancestors, not theirs. They thought this way because this was the teaching of the 10 Commandment ( Ex 20: 5). Ezekiel thought that the destruction of Jerusalem was due to the spiritual decay in previous generations. But this belief in the corporate life of Israel led to fatalism and irre sponsibility. So , Ezekiel gave God’s new policy for this new land because the people had misconstrued the old one. God judges each person individually.
