Olubadan seeks pyrates confraternity’s involvement to curb cultism

Charges aspirants to be brotherly in campaigns

THE National Association of Seadogs, popularly known as the Pyrates Confraternity, has been urged to engage in activities that would properly guide the youths on the ideas and ideals of similar associations.

Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade ll, made the appeal, at the weekend, in his Alarere residence during the visit of the top echelon of the association formed by Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka and his associates in 1952 at the then University College, Ibadan, which later became University of Ibadan ( UI).

The NAS executive members, led by its President, known as ‘ Capon’ in the confraternity parlance, Biola Owoaje, were at the monarch’s residence to pay homage as part of activities lined up for the quarterly meeting hosted by the Ibadan chapter of the association.

Olubadan, who lamented the nefarious activities now associated with the various cultism groups on campuses of the country’s higher institutions, said: “What we now see or hear our younger ones doing in the name of cultism are not only shocking and barbaric, but also at variance with the ideas and ideals of the founding- fathers of such groups.”

Owoaje told the Olubadan that it is customary of the association to pay homage to the foremost traditional ruler of any place across the country where the quarterly meetings are being held.

He reiterated the objective of the association to seek equity and development of the community.

In another development, the Olubadan has urged aspirants for the 2023 elections to be guided by brotherly love in their campaigns so that seed of discord would not be sown among supposed brothers and associates.

Balogun gave the advice during the presentation of the Oyo South Senatorial nomination form obtained by one of the aspirants in All Progressives Congress ( APC), Kolapo Kola- Daisi, to him for royal blessings.

He expressed delight at the enthusiasm being shown to the electoral process by the citizens so far, not minding the challenges confronting the country, a development he said, meant there is future for the country.

Kola- Daisi said he brought the nomination form for royal blessings and to assure the monarch of quality representation if given the opportunity.
