Imo police re- arrest two suspected jail breakers, kidnappers

MEnof Imo State Police Command have rearrested two suspected jail breakers and seven kidnappers as well as rescued a kidnap victim in the state.

The Command’s spokespers­on, Michael Abattam, who confirmed this developmen­t in a statement yesterday, said the suspects were trailed to their hideout in Ahiazu- Mbaise Local Council of the state.

He stressed that the two suspects, Dominic Chukwuma and Silas Nnawubia, confessed to have escaped from the Owerri Correction­al Centre, during the jail break perpetrate­d by unknown gunmen on April 5, 2021.

Abattam also disclosed that seven others, including a female member of their gang was also arrested, while arms, ammunition and a Sports Utility Vehicle ( SUV), were recovered from them.

According to him, Items, recovered from the suspects include, one AK47 rifle, breech number 1142 with 84 rounds of live ammunition, four local- made pistols, 46 rounds of live cartridges, one Toyota 4Runner SUV vehicle belonging to the victim, multiple banks ATM cards stolen from their victims and the personal belongings of the victim.

The PPRO said the victims have since being reunited with their family members, while manhunt is on to arrest the remaining members of the syndicate at large.

The statement read: “Following a report received by the Command’s Anti- Kidnapping

Unit on April 30 of the kidnapping of one Dominic Chukwuma and Silas Nnawubia respective­ly, the operatives immediatel­y swung into action.

“After gathering both credible and technical intelligen­ce, where the radar revealed the location of the criminal’s hideout in Ahiazu Mbaise, operatives on May 5, at about 2350 hours, stormed the kidnapper’s den and arrested one Obinna Onuoha, 35, a native of Umuegwu Mpam and Igbokwe Joseph, 35, a native of Umuchoko Ihitte Aforukwu, both of Ahiazu Mbaise LGA of Imo State and the victim held in captive was rescued unhurt.
