Police arrest suspected motorcycle thieves in Lagos

OPERATIVES of Lagos Rapid Response Squad ( RRS) have arrested 25- year- old Ayo Taiwo and 21- year- old Jude Prince Ovat for stealing a motorcycle, while Daniel Chibuike is at large.

The suspects were arrested on May 8 and a motorcycle was recovered from them in Park View Estate, Ikoyi area of Lagos.

The suspects were arrested after they dispossess­ed a motorcycli­st of his motorcycle.

Lagos Police spokespers­on, Benjamin Hundeyin, who confirmed the arrest yesterday, said Ovat and Daniel boarded the motorcycle from Obalande to Parkview Estate, where Taiwo was waiting for them.

He said on arriving the destinatio­n, Daniel hit the rider on the head with a wheel spanner and dispossess­ed him of his motorcycle.

According to him, the suspects were caught when people around the area, who witnessed the incident, raised the alarm which drew the attention of the RRS officers on patrol in the area.

The suspects, who confessed to have stolen several motorcycle­s in similar manner disclosed that they sold each stolen motorcycle for

N150,000.

Lagos State Commission­er of Police, Abiodun Alabi, has directed the Commander of RRS, Chief Superinten­dent of Police ( CSP), Olayinka Egbeyemi, to transfer the suspects and exhibit to the CP’S Special Squad for further investigat­ion, which would lead to the arrest of the fleeing gang member, their possible criminal receiver( s); and eventually prosecutio­n.
