Uzodimma suspends daily tolls collection from motorists

Directs appointees eyeing elective offices to resign

GOVERNOR Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has ordered suspension of collection of tolls from commercial transport operators and other motorists operating within the 27 local councils of the state.

The directive, The Guardian learnt, was as the result of the hardship and daily embarrassm­ent the operators faced from both the authorised and unauthoris­ed persons.

In a statement issued by the Commission­ers for Transport, Rex Anunobi, and the Interim Chairman, Imo State Internal Revenue Service ( IIRS), Dr. Ifeanyi Okeke, and made available to The Guardian, yesterday, it was stressed that the directive is to enable the state government migrate from the “analog collection to daily ticketing.”

THE governor has also directed all political appointees wishing to contest elections either for state or federal elective offices to resign.

According to a special announceme­nt, yesterday, by the Commission­er for Informatio­n and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, the concerned appointees are expected to drop their resignatio­n letter on or before Monday, May 16, 2022.
