Consultant seeks empowerment for youths, women

- From Rotimi Agboluaje, Ibadan

AUNITED Kingdom- trained management consultant, Dr. Adejoke Adekanmbi- Akinseye, has stressed the need to empower youths and women to attain their full potential.

Adekanmbi- Akinseye, who is the founder of Aderoju Ayoade Adekanmbi Foundation, emphasised that Nigerian youths are not lazy; rather what they needed is empowerment.

The philanthropist, stated this while speaking with journalists on her readiness to represent Ibadan North East/ South East federal constituency at the House of Representatives in 2023.

The researcher said: “I don’t believe our youths are lazy as they use to say, they need to be encouraged. I will initiate ideas that will change their minds positively, after which I will introduce them to sports, agriculture, entrepreneurial skills or trade. All of these will help disabuse their minds from ‘ yahoo’ activities.

“I will use all of these strategies to discourage the people from relying on stomach infrastructure practice, which has made so many people lazy. It is high time we taught the people how to fish rather than giving them fish and indulging them to be lazy and unproductive.

“I will use agriculture to change our narratives in the area. We will invest in training and research. This will help a long way to addressing the menace of poverty among the people. I will address and impact skills into the youths to enable them to function well.

“The women need to be strengthened so that they can be vocal. There is the need to empower women, and by doing so we are empowering the nation.”

The researcher also stressed the need for the government to implement the 35 per cent affirmative.
