Court grants detained House of Reps member, Farah Dagogo, bail

FEDERAL High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has granted bail to a governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State, Farah Dagogo.

Justice E. A. Obile, in a fundamental rights action and exparte application sought by Farah Dagogo, ordered the Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka; deputy commissioner of police in charge of CID, Port Harcourt; deputy superintendent of police; commander Police Team, Government House; attorney general of the state and Chief Magistrate Amadi Nna to release the applicant from police detention and restore his personal liberty.

The court also issued an order of interim injunction, restraining the respondentsfrom from further threatening and harassing the applicant.

The court, thereafter, adjourned till May 17 for hearing of the suit.

Innocent Ekwu, who is the counsel for Dagogo, said: “We are in court to follow up on various applications to secure his ( Farah Dagogo) release. It is my pleasure to inform you that the bail has been executed and perfected. We are here waiting for the commissioner of police to release us and we have been waiting since 2 p. m.

“The representative of the commissioner of police arrived and brought a letter that they want the office of the deputy chief registrar to further verify and confirm that the bail application is from this court. And that is being treated.

“A few minutes from now, the doors will open to Farah Dagogo and he will be able to go for special medical attention because he is sick and when confirmed fit will be able to resume his work at the National Assembly.

On the botched screening of Dagogo, the lawyer said they had earlier written to the national leadership of the party and expressed hope that the party would do the needful, knowing the implication of excluding him from the process.
