Style Me AMVCA

- By Maria Diamond

THEFederal Palace Hotel & Casino, Victoria Island, Lagos, was the place to be recently, as the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards ( AMVCA) hosted the first ever Runway Fashion Show. For a young fashion designer, witnessing the red carpet reception is enough to build a rich fashion catalogue; the stars turned up in style.

After a one- year hiatus, the AMVCA returned with an 8- day lineup as against the usual oneday event, and the second day saw the firstever runway fashion show. Hosted by Miz, the Runway Show featured nine designers handpicked among several entries and trained by Mai Atafo, Dasilva Ajayi, and Adebayo OkeLawal.

The show attracted several bigwigs in the fashion industry, including celebrities such as Ebuka- Obi Uchendu, Nancy Isime, Denola Grey, Osas Ighodalo, Stephanie Coker, Timini Egbuson, Uti Nwachukwu, Mercy Ekeh, Yemi Alade, Denrele Edun… the list is sooo long.

Ever since Yemi came to spotlight, she has been known for her exceptional fashion statements during her shows and performances. Her appearance on the AMVCA fashion runway as a Lush Hair model undoubtedly makes the list of her most memorable looks and was a highlight for fashion lovers at the event.

On his part, Denrele Edun has always been in a league of his own with all the eclectic looks he has pulled off over the years. His runway appearance was yet another one of his over- the- top moments, and it was a delight to see. The media personality brought the sass and pizzaz to the runway.

Yemi Alade wore a short black dress with braided pink details that created a heart- shaped illusion around her bust area. Styled by Lush Hair, she had her hair in a side part ponytail with braid fringe. Yemi accessorised the look with sil

ver jewellery and a pair of pink shoes. She finished the look with bedazzled pink eye makeup and nude lips.

On the other hand, Denrele Edun looked fabulous in a pink two- piece with an over- the- top light pink top and dark pink pants. As always, he paired the look with knee- high black platform boots, a black belt and oversized pink sunglasses.

Meanwhile, Obinna Omeruo, Felix Asuquo, and Sophie Chamberlain emerged winners of the Design For The Stars competition at the Runway Show. Over the past two weeks, the young, upcoming designers selected from hundreds of entries for the competition have worked to create the unique collections they displayed at the Runway Show.

The nine finalists - Amy Aghomi, Azeezat Alawusa, Ezioghene Egbelefiyo, Felix Asuquo, Ikechukwu Nwosu, Obinna Omeruo, Omowunmi Pillot, Oseluese Okpamen, and Sophie Chamberlain showcased their unique fashion pieces. However, Obinna Omeruo, Felix Asuquo, and Sophie Chamberlain walked home with N5 million each, having clinched most of the votes from the event’s audience and judges - Ebuka Obi- Uchendu, Denola Grey, Idia Aisien and Stephanie Coker.

The finalists also presented a Pepsi Street Style collection as part of their showcase. Pepsi, tactical sponsors of the AMVCAS, rewarded the winners, Obinna Omeruo and Sophie Chamberlain, with N1 million each, bringing their total grand prize to N6 million each.
