Burna Boy Drops Lead Single Off Love, Damini Album
AFTER teasing the song by performing it at his recent Madison Square Garden ( MSG) One Night In Space show, in New York, Afro- fusion superstar, Burna Boy, has officially unveiled the lead single to his forthcoming Love, Damini album. The song, titled, Last Last, creates an intriguing but rather ambiguous build- up to the album.
The song sees Burna Boy take up a rather pensive swipe at love, reflecting on heartbreak. He draws relatable comparisons, using familiar street lingo as he says, “E don cast, last last, na everybody go chop breakfast.” Nonetheless, it is the upbeat sound direction, as well as the subtle socio- political commentary, as he referenced the 2010 killing of the Niger Delta militia, George Soboma, that actually spices up the record for this writer.
Burna’s breathtaking flows on his records have been a main staple of his discography since inception. His dexterity with switching flows, from his singing persona to his more fast- paced cadence, among others, has glimmered on his music since his debut, over a decade ago.
Nonetheless, with Last Last, it becomes increasingly harder to predict what the album would sound like, as it is not unlike anything we have heard before, and it increases the yearning and hope for a more sonically diverse body of work.
