Scientists Advocate Need For Food Security In Nigeria

- By Paul Adunwoke

SOME Nigerian scientists have advocated finding a lasting scientific solution and approach to attaining sustainable food security, as it is critical to the country’s survival and elimination of hunger.

They noted that statistics have shown that there may be severe food challenges waiting to happen in Nigeria if urgent action is not taken to reduce the glitches facing the agriculture industry in Nigeria.

The scientists made this known when Nigeria Prize for Science team announced it has received 107 entries from scientists worldwide for the 2022 edition, sponsored by Nigeria NLNG Limited, titled ‘ innovations in sustainable food security’.

The Advisory Board for the prize, chaired by Prof. Barth Nnaji, former Minister of Power handed over the 107 entries to the judges, headed by Prof. Christian Ugwu Agbo, of the Department of Agriculture, University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
