OSGOF to arrest, prosecute, violators of Survey Act

- From Cornelius Essen, Abuja

THE Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation ( OSGOF) has announced plans to arrest and prosecute the violators of provisions of the Survey Coordination Act ( SCA) of 1962 as amended.

Surveyor General of the Federation, Abudulganiyu Adebomehin, stated this while receiving the Director of Communications in the Office of the National Security Adviser ( ONSA) to the President, Major General Samad Akesode, in Abuja.

Adebomehin also explained, “Individuals and groups cannot be allowed to continue to build or install infrastructure, generate geospatial information and data of other critical communications without recourse to OSGOF.”

He commended President Muhammadu Buhari and the National Security Adviser ( NSA), General Babagana Mongunu ( rtd) for taking to heart the issues of the violations of the provisions of the Act seriously, which have consequences to Nigeria’s sovereignty.

“We would commence full implementation and enforcement of the Act, while NSA has already deployed Major General Adesoke to work with us for the success of the operations,” he said.

The SGOF, therefore, appealed for the provision of military personnel for the safety of surveyors and other staff during engagements, particularly at international boundaries, like NigeriaCameroun border, which they lost some staff five years ago.

Responding, Akesode thanked SGOF for its commitment towards infrastructural development and national security, adding, there is need for every Nigerian to be patriotic for the general good of the country.

He said the relevance of the activities of OSGOF cannot be overemphasised, saying, we need collaboration with relevant authorities, the Nigerian Communications Commission ( NCC), IHS Towers, one of the largest independent owners, operators and developers to share telecommunications infrastructure.

The military chief, therefore, pledged their support to OSGOF to generate geospatial information on all obstacles, adding that such information for masts and other installations around the airports is necessary to guarantee safety.
