IOD advocates vibrant leadership to improve organisational threats

-

THE Institute of Directors ( IOD) Nigeria has called on directors on the need to reinforce agile, swift and vibrant leader - ship to improve their responses to organisational issues and threats.

The institute said this was pertinent, especially with the reverberating effect of COVID- 19 that threw the

business world into new realities.

President and Chairman of the Governing Council, IOD Nigeria, Ije Jidenma, said this during the institute’s members’ evening, which ha d the theme “Agile Leadership and Governance in Unprecedented Times: What Future for Company Directors.”

She said the current corporate governance models of today’s organisations will not be fit for organisations of the future except they adapt to new reality , which is vital to change the way they work, behave and create value to stay relevant in the future.

According to her , the world is changing at a dramatically high pace, where

the development of advanced technologies and scalability of these new technologies like artificial intelligence, blockchain, bots, quantum computers, is exponential.

The Executive Vice Chair of Emerging Africa Group, Toyin Sanni, said that by adopting the agile leadership technique, organisations and leaders can survive and thrive in times of crisis and change.

She said as the workplace and the future of work get revolutionised by the pandemic and technological trends, she urged organi - sations and business leaders to adopt agile leader - ship style to optimise their businesses.

According to her , agile leaders identify trends that will continue beyond the crisis period. “Agile leaders have more than one strategy; they think ahead and guess the future. Agile leaders define areas of greatest risk and take action; use down - turns to reshape their businesses for the future; new leadership styles for tomorrow’s challenges,”

Sanni said.
