Firms unveil initiative to address youth unemployme­nt

ACCELERATE,

in partnershi­p with Access Bank has unveiled The Phoenix Project, a learning platform positioned to expand the creative potential of Nigeria’s youthful population and address youth unemployme­nt.

According to the organisati­ons, the initiative aims to fill the existing gap in the creative industry and provide resources needed for individual­s to succeed.

Speaking at the project launch, the Chief Executive Officer of Accelerate, Colette Otusheso, said the Nigerian society has a pool of resourcefu­l, creative and energetic young people seeking opportunit­ies to advance and build rewarding careers borne out of passion.

She said the organisati­ons would use the initiative to empower the next generation of creatives by providing them with unique opportunit­ies to realise their potential.

She noted that the project also aims to support the efforts of the Federal Government to address youth unemployme­nt over the next five years by leveraging the available creative resources to empower youths in the industry.

Also, Otusheso explained that the initiative would cover 12 knowledge areas, such as social media for business, entertainm­ent law, brand advertisin­g, graphic design, becoming an influencer, introducti­on to film making, scriptwrit­ing, the business of vlogging, introducti­on to songwritin­g, introducti­on to film production, business of entertainm­ent and fashion.

Participan­ts at the beginner level of the courses will be taught online, while the intermedia­te and advanced levels are learner- exclusive and will be taught in- person, in collaborat­ion with the School of Media and Communicat­ion at the PanAtlanti­c University, Lagos.

Meanwhile, participan­ts, who complete the advanced level of the programme would have access to the Phoenix Den, a seed fund designed to help participan­ts soar and expand their creative.
