Udom’s wife tasks parents on boy child training

- From Ayoyinka Jegede, Uyo

WIFE of Akwa Ibom State governor, Dr. Martha Emmanuel, has asked parents to pay equal attention to male and female children.

She noted with regret that more attention had in recent decades tilted towards the girl child, leading to the negligence of the boy child.

Speaking at the first conference on International Day of the Boy Child in Uyo on the theme: “Boosting optimism, restore self- worth,” Emmanuel, who is also the chairman, Gender Based Violence management ( GBV) stated that a well- groomed girl child could end up with a poorly groomed boy child as spouse if the foundation is not re- laid.

The keynote speaker, Prof. Effiong Johnson of the University of Uyo stressed the need for young men to make constructive choices and remain optimistic about their future.

“Take your studies seriously and reject invitation to join cultism from anyone called a friend,” she advised.

Also, the Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on New Media, Mr. Aniekeme Finbarr, cautioned boys against cultism, declaring such an act of cowardice.
