Anglicans Urge Akeredolu To Pay Pensioners, Laud Move Against Insecurity
GOVERNOR Rotimi Akeredolu has been admonished to exhibit concern about the plight of pensioners in Ondo State by paying them their entitlements.
Anglicans in the Diocese On The Coast, Okitipupa Local Government, who made the appeal at their 2022 Synod held at the St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Odojomo Igbotako lamented the hardship being suffered by the ex- workers, most of who are in their old age, calling on the state government to give special attention to their plight.
The Synod also advised the government to consider payment of entitlements of its workers who died in active service over the years, noting that the children left behind by the late workers do not deserve to suffer on account of the authorities not paying their late parents’ pension and gratuity long after the necessary processes have been completed and approval given for payment. The delegates decried a situation where children of many of the deceased persons could not continue their education and meet other crucial financial obligations due to lack of money after their parents’ demise.
In his charge, the Diocesan Bishop, The Rt. Rev’d Oluseyi Pirisola observed that the rate of kidnapping has reduced in the state. He commended Akeredolu administration’s move against insecurity, especially the establishment of the Amotekun security outfit.
