SUPPORTERS

of Mahmud Ajiya ( Dallatun Bauchi), who contested the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress ( APC), have withdrawn their support after their principal defected to the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), the ruling party in the state.

At a press briefing, yesterday, the Chairman of Ajiya’s steering committee, said the supporters, comprising former commissioners, House of Assembly members, local council chairmen, retired permanent secretaries, directors, leaders of civil society organisations, youth and women groups, had shifted their loyalty to the APC candidate.

“We wish to notify the general public of our resolve not to follow Ajiya, since he has defected to PDP. Our stand emanated from a meeting we held on November 13, 2022 at the residence of Hussaini Umar ( Majikiran Bauchi). We have streamlined our teeming support to the candidature of Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar ( rtd) of APC. Our decision remains resolute and for the overall interest of Bauchi people.”

Ajiya is the second governorship aspirant to defect from the APC to the PDP. Farouq Mustapha, who contested the APC ticket and lost, joined PDP. He has been made Campaign Director- General for Bala Mohammed re- election bid. APC

governorship candidate for Kaduna State, Sen. Uba Sani, has received a large number of defectors into his party.

The defectors were reported to be over 12,800 and majorly from the PDP in Giwa Local Council.

Kaduna PDP APC Chairman, Air Commodore Emmanuel Jekada ( rtd), in a rally to welcome the defectors, said the movement of such huge number from the PDP to the APC nailed the coffin the PDP in the council.

BUT

PDP Chairman, Felix Hyat, said the party is set to win the 2023 elections at the national and state levels, to herald the country’s path towards true democracy and development.

Hyat, who is also the Chairman of PDP State Chairmen Forum, at the inauguration of the campaign committee in Kaduna, yesterday, said: “This event kickstarts our activities of getting to every voter in Kaduna under a Unified Leadership Campaign Structure.”
