Useh emerges NSE fellow, seeks capacity development in oil sector

INDEPENDENT oil exploration company, Aiteo Eastern E& P Co. Ltd has said investment in human capacity development in the oil and gas sector in Nigeria is yielding return locally and internationally.

The company is also calling for national development and sustainability of energy plans by encouraging transfer of technology, especially through young Nigerian engineers.

Chief Operating Officer of Aiteo Eastern E& P Co. Ltd, Ewariezi Useh, who spoke in Abuja said Nigeria has done well in building capacity in the oil and gas sector.

Useh, who was conferred as fellow of the Nigeria Society of Engineers ( NSE) disclosed that his award remained a testament to the strength of the country in human capacity.

He said Nigerians’ capacity development in the oil sector has come of age and is now paying off across the world.

“Across the world, Nigerians are doing well. Nigerians are management members of most international oil companies today. Go to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Europe and most all producing countries; a lot of our indigenous engineers are in all those places. There is no oil company anywhere in the world where you won’t find at least one Nigerian engineer ,” Useh said.

He said while the country had imported skills to develop the oil sector, the professionals of Nigerian origin are now taking over the industr y across the world.

According to him, Nigerians would penetrate into all the emerging oil producing and lead the development of the sector.

Useh said: “in terms of the oil sector, Nigerians have distinguished themselves worldwide. We are a blessing when it comes to knowledge and skills.”

He said the NSE has set standards for the engineering practice in the oil sector, a development that has further aided capacity development in the sector.

“I am privileged to be honoured today but I did not emerge, I have had over 28 years experience in the industry,” Useh said.

According to him, younger engineers must be mentored and encouraged to sign up to the society so that the country can sustain capacity development.
