PLATEAU State Coordinator of Crisis Mediation Mitigation Regional Council ( CMMRC), Mr. Sadaeq Hongs, has revealed that quick response of security agencies prevented more deaths in Maikatako, Bokkos Local Council of Plateau State, on Tuesday night.

Gunmen had invaded Maikatako, the day the All Progressives Congress ( APC) kick- started its electioneering in Jos, the state capital, and killed nine members of a family. Two other people were reportedly murdered in the area same day.

According to the non- governmental organisation, the death toll would have risen to 70, but for the quick intervention of security operatives. The rescue team was led by the Commander, Operation Safe Haven ( OPSH), MajGen. Ibrahim Ali.

Hongs said he and other

CMMRC members did not leave the area until the security personnel arrived.

“Eleven persons were confirmed dead and four injured. Four houses and a church were burnt. In retaliation, the angry youths killed a Fulani herder and burnt a Mosque by the roadside.

“I came back very late and, throughout the night, we were monitoring the situation. I did not sleep,” he added.
