Osun community cancels celebration in protest against alleged imposition of monarch

of Iree in Boripe Local Council of Osun State have announced the cancellation of their yearly festival over the ongoing chieftaincy tussle in the ancient town.
The cancellation of the 27th cultural day was contained in a communique issued after a meeting of the Elders’ Forum of Iree Progressives Association ( IPA), a copy of which was made available to
The Guardian in Osogbo.
In the communique jointly signed by Chairman, Iree Council of Elders, Adenrele Afolabi and President of IPA, Chief Oluwole Taiwo, the indigenes rejected the Areeelect, alleging that he was illegally and unconstitutionally imposed on the town.
They accused the state government and Boripe North council of using some warrant chiefs to elect the Oba in total disregard of the tradition, custom and laid down rules of selecting an Aree.
