• 2018 - Nigeria

Ex- Pres. Goodluck Jonathan’s new book, My Transition Hours was hijacked by pirates 48 hours after its unveiling. Soft copies were shared on social media with the electronic copy edited to suit purposes of the pirates.

• 2015 -

Prince Abubakar Audu died due to a heart attack shortly before announceme­nt of the Kogi election results by INEC. He was twice the governor of Kogi State. His first tenure was from Jan. 1992 to Nov. 1993 and the second from 1999 to 2003. He was seeking reelection on the All Progressiv­es Congress platform and was close to being declared winner of the election, which was later declared inconclusi­ve.

Authoritie­s arrested Senator Ali Ndume for allegedly being the sponsor of Umar Konduga, one of spokesmen for Boko Haram. Konduga also implicated Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, ex- governor of Borno.

Policemen raided Zuccotti Park in New York, evicting Occupy Wall Street protesters from what has become the epicenter of the worldwide movement protesting corporate greed and economic inequality.

Angela Merkel was elected as Germany’s first female Chancellor, and now has the job of turning around Europe's biggest economy.

Over 100 people were killed in attacks aimed at contestant­s of the Miss World contest in the North

Mary Kay Ash, founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics, died. At the time of Ash's death, the firm had 800,000 representa­tives in 37 countries with annual sales over $ 200m

• 1996 - USA

Michael Jackson married the woman carrying his baby, his plastic surgeon's nurse, Debbie Rowe. Their first child was born Feb 13, 1997 and named Prince. A girl named Paris was born Apr 3, 1998. Rowe filed for divorce in 1999.

• 1963 - USA

President John F. Kennedy was assassinat­ed and Texas Governor John Connally seriously wounded by Lee Harvey Oswald, who also killed Dallas Police officer J. D. Tippit after fleeing the scene. Vice President Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as 36th President of the United States afterwards.
