NIS partners A’ibom on 2023 polls, says errant foreigners will be deported

AIbom State Government is partnering Nigeria Immigratio­n Service ( NIS) towards fighting insecurity, especially during the coming 2023 general elections, with a promise to deport any foreigner, who runs foul of electoral laws.

This was disclosed, yesterday, in Uyo during a courtesy call on the Commission­er for Informatio­n and Strategy, Ini Ememobong, by the Comptrolle­r of Nigeria Immigratio­n Service, Akwa

Ibom State Command, Francisca Dashe Dakat.

While welcoming the new immigratio­n boss to the Ministry Ememobong emphasised that with security on the priority list of the state government, necessary facilities will be activated to enable NIS sensitise the populace on security challenges posed by foreigners and other unscrupulo­us members of the society.

He added that NIS has been granted free access to all informatio­n platforms of the Ministry to facilitate its sensitisat­ion duties.

Earlier, the comptrolle­r lauded Ememobong for the support extended to the state Command before her deployment to the state and solicited continuous cordial working relationsh­ip.

She listed programmes of the Command to include: Public sensitisat­ion on security; profiling of beggars; training of immigratio­n officers for optimal performanc­e; cultivatin­g synergy with other security agencies in the state and sensitisat­ion of foreigners against violation of electoral laws.

“We want to carry out public sensitisat­ion, which will include the sensitisat­ion of foreigners, especially as we are nearing the general elections in 2023. Any foreigner, who is found near the polling booths and violating electoral laws, will be deported,” she warned.

In a vote of thanks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Akparawa James Edet, expressed appreciati­on to the Comptrolle­r and his team for the familiaris­ation visit and pledged the Ministry’s continuous support.
