UBTH offers free cancer screening as NLNG upgrades ICU centre

MANAGEMENT­S of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital ( UBTH) and the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas ( NLNG), yesterday, inaugurate­d a 15- bed Intensive Care Unit ( ICU) situated at university’s tertiary health facility for patients seeking emergency medical services in Edo State and the South South region.

The management of the health facility also pledged to carry out free cancer screening for a month as part of activities to celebrate its 50th anniversar­y.

The CMD announced that part of events slated to mark its 50th anniversar­y, among others, is free training for first responders on basic life support, free cancer screening, executive screening and subsidised surgeries.

Speaking at the launch of the ICU unit in Benin City, Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Prof. Darlington Obaseki, said the project was part of the Nigeria LNG hospital support programme geared towards ameliorati­ng healthcare challenges of patients in critical conditions.
