Lagos International Film Festival To Hold in December
THE 2022 edition of the Lagos International Film Festival ( LIFF) will hold between December 15 and 19 2022 in Lagos. Founder and Festival CEO Madu Chikwendu announced during the week that the festival will take place at Sky Cinemas on the Lekki/ Epe Expressway and will feature film screening, panel discussions, master classes and a round table on the state of the African audio- visual industry.
Chikwendu also disclosed that the festival has extended its call for entries to November 30 to allow filmmakers from all the over the world who missed the initial call for entries to submit their films. “Filmmakers who have very good films they want to premiere or launch using the platform of the Lagos International Film Festival can submit entries via filmfreeway. com/ Lagfilmfest. Entries are still open and will close on November 30,” he said.
Meanwhile, LIFF’S Programmer Daisy Madu- Chikwendu has announced call for entries for the 2022 LIFF Screen To Win competition. The maiden edition of the competition held in 2021 and winners of the maiden edition according to LIFF’S programmer have been awarded cash prizes. Screen to win is promoted as an immersive, onsite training programme for students of tertiary institutions.
“After their training, the students make films on the spot and a jury selects the winners. This year again, we will be awarding cash prizes to three winners,’’ said Daisy MaduChikwendu, who also hinted that the much anticipated Yoruba language film with the signature of the veteran filmmaker Matthew Simpa titled Ito Okunrin will premiere on December 16 at the festival.
“It is the first time the movie, which I must say will herald a new direction in Yoruba language films, is being shown anywhere. So, it is a LIFF 2022 official premiere.”
