FG to deliver Abuja housing scheme in December

TO increase housing stock, the Federal Government plans to complete its 748 housing units, which are at 97 per cent stage, by December.

Minister of State for Works and Housing, Umar ElYakub, who stated this during an inspection tour of the estate, located at Zuba in Federal Capital Territory and developed by Federal Housing Authority ( FHA), expressed government’s desire is to provide affordable apartments to the people.

El- Yakub also hinted that the remaining three per cent of the project would be completed and ready for commission­ing in December, saying: “This is part of the promise made to the residents of the capital city and its environs.”

He expressed delight on the extent of work done in the estate, describing the project as a mixed community, and example of infrastruc­ture imparting on the economy, as it is aimed at creating 3,500 direct jobs for the people.

FHA Managing Director, Senator Gbenga Ashafa, said that some of the homeowners have moved in already based on compassion­ate grounds, explaining the estate has affordable prices for its one- bedroom, two - bedrooms and threebedro­oms terraces.

Ashafa said that some facilities are undergoing test run such as water supply, as Zuba has water problem, electricit­y and other social amenities, like schools worship centres, road networks before the owners move in

by next month.

Earlier, Tukur Mohammed said that the project would’ve been completed three years ago, but due to litigation­s.

He said they had to settle out of court and construct 2.7 kiliometre­s road leading to the estate and they postponed the handing over date.
