Fire guts Kano model school, destroys 14 classes

KState Fire Service, yesterday, said 14 classes were destroyed when fire gutted Tsangaya Model Boarding Primary School, located at Kiyawa Village, Bagwai Local Council of the state. Spokespers­on for Kano State fire service, Saminu Abdullahi, said the fire broke out on Sunday afternoon and completely destroyed 14 classes, twelve offices and 21 toilets in the school. According to the report, Tsangaya or Almajiri school was among boarding primary schools constructe­d by the administra­tion of President Goodluck Jonathan, as part of efforts to integrate Almajiri schools to convention­al schools.

Abdullahi said their Zonal office in Bichi received a distress call from one Alhaji Gaddafi Sani of Bagwai council about the incident. He said: “Bichi fire station received an emergency call from Alhaji Ghaddafi Sani Bagwai.

“The fire started from the administra­tive block in the main building, after the solar system malfunctio­ned, and spread to the main part of the school.”
