Foundation urges sensitisat­ion of Lagos pupils on road safety

WORRIED by the high rate of accidents on roads, homes and schools, a group, Strap and Safe Child Foundation, has called for continuous sensitisat­ion of children on safety tips.

Managing Director and Founder of Strap and Safe Child Foundation, Mrs. Bolanle Edwards, made the call during the 10th anniversar­y of the group, founded towards “Improving the security and safety of the Nigerian child one day at a time”.

The event held at the LCCI Conference & Exhibition Centre, Alausa , Lagos, was to commemorat­e Strap and Safe Child Foundation’s 10 years of advocacy for the safety of children.

Mrs. Edwards called for collective response to ensure the safety of Nigerian children. She noted that the foundation was started after years of agonising the neglect of the Nigerian Child, while her purpose remains the pursuit of a safe & secure environmen­t for Nigerian Child to grow and flourish.

She also expressed the foundation’s commitment towards creating a safe and secure space for every Nigerian child, by making safety advocates out of parents, teachers, and children.

She said: “As safety watchers, we have raised the vanguard for stakeholde­rs to pay close attention to who and what the children are exposed to online. Our mantra is “Better safe than sorry”. “Join us in being the bridge between the stakeholde­rs and the children on this safety journey, join us in the collective consensus and public investment in providing our most vulnerable, a life free of violence and fear.”

On her part, Lagos State Commission­er of Education, Mrs. Folashade Adefisayo, represente­d by the Director, Lagos State Ministry of Education. Mrs. Adebambo Mosumola Rita, encouraged students to be good safety ambassador­s.

The Director- General, Lagos State Safety Commission Mr. Lanre Mojola and other members of Lagos State Safety Commission graced the event.

Also, Lagos sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps ( FRSC), Mr. Olusegun Ogungbemid­e represente­d by Jesutomipe Mala, appealed to Nigerians to abide by safety rules for the safety of the Nigerian child.

Students from 25 Senior and Junior Secondary Schools under Lagos State Education district VI were badged as safety prefects after undergoing training in the last eight months, while teachers from the 25 schools were appreciate­d for their effort and support towards the foundation and safe school interventi­on in Lagos State Secondary Schools’ District VI.
