N’delta Ministry commission­s N7b Imo- Rivers road, urges sustainabi­lity

S17.5 kilometres carriagewa­y linking Okpala community in Imo State and Igwurita community in Rivers State, rehabilita­ted by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, has been commission­ed.

Speaking at the commission­ing of the phase one of project, which cost over N7 billion, the Minister of State of the Ministry, Sharon Ikeazor, expressed delight over the quality and timely completion of the project by the contractor.

She said the project was rehabilita­ted in line with the mandate of the Ministry to promote sustainabl­e developmen­t, peace and economic prosperity of the Niger Delta region through the developmen­t of infrastruc­ture.

The road, she disclosed, was awarded in phases due to its peculiarit­ies.

“The completed section of the road comprises rehabilita­tion of the existing 17.5km single carriagewa­y road from Okpuala community in Imo State to UmuoheIgbo­do in Etche Council of Rivers State, with standard carriagewa­y of 7.3m width and 2.75m Shoulders.

“The pavement structure consists of 200mm soil cement stabilised sub- base, 200mm crushed stone base with 6Omm thick asphaltic binder course and 40mm asphaltic wearing course. Other works include constructi­on of culverts and concrete lined drains.”

“I wish to commend the project contractor, Messrs Triacta/ Hartland Nigeria Limited for completing the project even with the prevailing challenges,” she said.
