N’delta Ministry commissions N7b Imo- Rivers road, urges sustainability
S17.5 kilometres carriageway linking Okpala community in Imo State and Igwurita community in Rivers State, rehabilitated by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, has been commissioned.
Speaking at the commissioning of the phase one of project, which cost over N7 billion, the Minister of State of the Ministry, Sharon Ikeazor, expressed delight over the quality and timely completion of the project by the contractor.
She said the project was rehabilitated in line with the mandate of the Ministry to promote sustainable development, peace and economic prosperity of the Niger Delta region through the development of infrastructure.
The road, she disclosed, was awarded in phases due to its peculiarities.
“The completed section of the road comprises rehabilitation of the existing 17.5km single carriageway road from Okpuala community in Imo State to UmuoheIgbodo in Etche Council of Rivers State, with standard carriageway of 7.3m width and 2.75m Shoulders.
“The pavement structure consists of 200mm soil cement stabilised sub- base, 200mm crushed stone base with 6Omm thick asphaltic binder course and 40mm asphaltic wearing course. Other works include construction of culverts and concrete lined drains.”
“I wish to commend the project contractor, Messrs Triacta/ Hartland Nigeria Limited for completing the project even with the prevailing challenges,” she said.
