Gunmen kill family of three in Benue

- Fromsamson Kukwa- Yanor, Makurdi

UNKNOWN gunmen in the early hours of yesterday, killed a man and his wife on their farm in Yelwata, Guma Local Council of Benue State. The gunmen also killed a daughter of the slain couple while one escaped with machete cuts. Eye witnesses identified the victims as Mr. Clement Ukertor and his wife Christiana

Ukertor, both peasant farmers based in Yelwata.

The Guardian learnt that Dooyum Ukertor, the daughter who was killed was initially thought to have been abducted, but was unfortunately discovered dead in the bush a few hours later. The only surviving member from the attack, 20- year - old Blessing Ukertor, was still lying critically ill at the hospital and was still oblivious of the death of her parents and sister.

The Guardian further gathered that the late Christiana Ukertor is the chairlady of St Joseph Catholic mission in Yelwata.

Yelwata is a small settlement bordering Nasarawa State on the Makurdi- Lafia road. The town has consistently been attacked by bandits and armed herdsmen.

The recent stationing of a military checkpoint in the area has done little to curtail the killing of farmers by the notorious gunmen.
